The Mecca – A Wellness-Centered Compound Rooted in Community ,Sustainability and Boxing
Planned for a spacious 600-square-meter site in the Oman community, The Mecca is a purpose-driven, multi-structure compound that reimagines how architecture can serve both the individual and the community. Designed for a client deeply rooted in health and fitness, the project integrates a commercial boxing gym, an Airbnb-style guest apartment, a private family home, and a security residence — all tied together by a shared commitment to accessibility, warmth, and sustainability.
Architecture That Breathes and Belongs
Each structure within The Mecca reflects its distinct function while remaining unified in material expression. Rammed earth walls and neutral, earthen tones form the tactile foundation of the compound, allowing the architecture to blend into its natural surroundings. Concrete provides structural integrity while warm finishes, thoughtful detailing, and organic textures bring the spaces to life.
The Boxing Gym: A commercially-scaled fitness facility, designed with openness, ventilation, and flow — welcoming to all, including those with mobility challenges.
The Guest Apartment: A stylish Airbnb unit that offers travelers and locals a quiet, wellness-focused retreat.
The Family Home: Warm, classic, and grounded — designed to feel like a sanctuary, balancing privacy with openness.
The Security Residence: Discreet but well-integrated, with dual functionality and its own spatial identity.
Designed for Accessibility
Every building within the compound is designed with universal access in mind — from wide circulation zones to ramped thresholds and barrier-free bathrooms. Soma Earth isn’t just about inclusion; it’s about dignity and freedom of movement.
Rooted in Sustainability
Rammed Earth Construction: Reduces carbon footprint while celebrating earth textures.
Passive Cooling Strategies: High ceilings, cross-ventilation, and shaded zones reduce mechanical dependence.
Low-impact Sourcing: Materials are locally obtained where possible, with long-term performance and maintenance in mind.
A Living System, Not Just a Project
Currently in the pre-construction phase, The Mecca represents a new type of compound living — one that serves the body, the community, and the land itself. It’s more than a place to live or work; it’s a living, breathing environment designed to grow with its users and surroundings.
